This bottle opener is hand forged from a piece of of solid bronze 1" x 4.5" x 1/4". The texture created on the handle is also made by hand in the forging process.
Through the forging process: the opener (bronze a non-ferrous metal) is heated to near 1400 degrees Fahrenheit (lower than steel 1750 degrees due to their differences in melting points) throughout the forging process several times, the handles hand made texture is created by a fuller I made which is struck several times to make this pattern, usually next would be the time for any customization or personalization to take place if wanted, the next step is forming the opener circle or opening through slitting, then apply a drift to the slit for the appropriate diameter size of the opening then shaped and form the opener tab that grasps the bottle cap under the crimps, Then the arc in the handle is created. After forging opener the finishing and cleaning process begins; wax is then applied to the opener for a protectant. Due to the arc forged into the handle the opener is easy to grasp off of flat surfaces, the textured handle has a vibrant yet smooth feel to the touch. The opener has a solid and certain feel that only the blacksmith forging process can create!
Care Instructions: Care is simply. When the bottle opener gets wet, towel dry and let sit til completely dry, when completely dry apply a little wax to the opener if needed I use Renaissance Wax. Bronze when non waxed and sealed from the environment will develop a beautiful patina over time. Bronze can also be kept with polish as you would polish silver. Use a bronze compatible polish.
If you would like additional information, photographs or custom made single or multiple items for any occasion, please reach out to me, emails are always welcomed.
All the Best, Jon
